Alcohol Addiction Therapy

Alcohol addiction therapy is designed for people struggling with alcohol addiction or related problems, including alcohol-binging, alcohol abuse, alcoholism, and chronic alcohol relapsing. Whether the alcohol ingested is beer, wine, or hard liquor, improper use of any type of alcohol can lead a person to a dark, scary, lonely place. One of the unique challenges people with alcohol problems face is that alcohol is often a legal, easily accessible, socially acceptable, and generally promoted, substance. One can easily walk into a liquor store, bar, restaurant, or social gathering, get alcohol, drink it and appear to be fine. It’s easy to blend in with one’s environment with alcohol, and for the problem to go undetected. For a period of time, one might feel as though he or she has everything under control - until the problems start catching up to him or her. Often these problems may include declining health, strained relationships with family and friends, poor performance at school, work, and home, legal issues, and lost opportunities.

In alcohol addiction therapy, Dr. Nourmand focuses on helping clients gain clarity and insight into the root causes of their alcohol use. He believes people who develop a problem with alcohol are smart, intelligent and sensitive. They keep going back to alcohol because the alcohol is working for them in some way. Maybe it briefly "takes off the edge," temporarily covers up their anxiety or depression, or momentarily distracts them from other unpleasant experiences.

After clients have a solid understanding of why they drink alcohol the way they do, alcohol addiction therapy usually enters a phase of trigger identification. People who use alcohol habitually have become accustomed to drinking under specific circumstances. Some drink when they are alone, others drink when they are in a group, and there are those who drink when they feel a particular way. And yet, for some it might appear that there are no conditions to their drinking. While for some it may seem that there are no specific reasons for their drinking, that “any reason is a reason to drink,” the truth is that there is always a reason why someone drinks. Just because someone doesn’t see it, doesn’t mean it’s not there. Dr. Nourmand guides clients in becoming more mindful and sensitive to sometimes very subtle triggers, helping clients better understand what their triggers are, and why they are triggering.

Once clients know what their triggers are and why, alcohol addiction therapy naturally transitions to acquiring the right tools to effectively cope with the issues they are struggling with. Dr. Nourmand emphasizes teaching clients inner-self skills, whereby clients become more personally refined, more in-tune with themselves and why they think what they think, feel what they feel, and do what they do. Living with such thoughtfulness and deliberateness allows a person to make categorically better decisions in life. When people make better decisions in their lives, the need for alcohol drops.

"Our 18 year old son was struggling with alcohol and drug addiction. Although he had been making some headway, his progress stagnated and we were frustrated that he wasn't getting closer to integrating back into our family. Almost immediately after starting with Dr. Raymond, we were drawn to his ability to get to the core. He proved to be an expert in working with our son and getting the wheels moving again. He was especially skilled at helping our son integrate into the family in a way that was comfortable and effective. We started to have our son back and he taught us how to be a family again. We are forever grateful for his effort, concern and expertise."

"I came to Dr. Raymond feeling depressed, hopeless, and pretty close to giving up on psychologists (therapists) as a whole. Over the past 7 months, I have had the pleasure of working with Dr. Raymond Nourmand. In our sessions, Dr. Raymond promotes agency in me to explore my mind, and to find the root source of my anxieties. I can remember after our first session I said, 'I feel as though this was the equivalence of 6 sessions with past psychologists I have had.' I can say with certainty that I feel I am happier and a more confident person than I was 7 months ago."
